How did you choose this year’s vacation destination?
Maybe it is a camping trip that you have always wanted to take. It could be that the kids wanted to go to a giant land built by a Mouse. Or was it something different all together?
As my wife and I prepare to celebrate 20 years of married bliss, we wanted to do something that was special and different. So, the planning and plotting began. We could go back to Cancun where we went for our original honeymoon, but we’ve been there and done that. Of course this time we would have a little more money and a better idea of what to expect. Maybe it is time to hit one of those Mouse Parks again, but that only appeals to one of us (Guess which one?). How about Yellowstone? Then we realize that it would be a crowded, overpriced mess to go in the heart of tourist season.
Then it hit us. We are both fans of Jimmy Buffet. I am not sure we have enough fandom to fully call ourselves Parrot Heads, but we have seen him live in concert more than once. Let’s head to Florida, but where?
Key West seemed like a good idea, but to get there is not easy. It would give us a great chance to get to the roots of the entire Parrot Head movement. We shot that down eventually, due to logistics and a lack of enough time to make that trip happen properly.
As we put ideas up against the wall, it was finally decided Pensacola would be the perfect spot. Why Pensacola, you ask? It comes from the song, “Frank and Lola!” They were on their second honeymoon in Pensacola, so that is how we decided to make that our destination.
After some real research we found that there is a ton of stuff to do and they have some of the best beaches in the United States. So, off to Pensacola we will go. I just hope we don’t get run over by the life guard’s jeep (Check the Lyrics, it will all make sense).
