In the search for America’s 20 coolest outdoor towns, Matador Network used these guidelines to decide:
- It has to be an actual town and not a destination.
- The outdoor activities have to be in the immediate surroundings (think rivers, bike paths and mountains all in central locations).
- There must be some type of local culture and it should be rich with tradition.
Our area is FULL of towns like this, and a few local spots even made the list! Coming in at #12…
FRUITA!! Called the Moab of Colorado, we all know Fruita has plenty to offer for the avid out doorsman/woman. Berta the dinosaur is pretty dang cool, too!
#8. Moab. Yeah it’s not in Colorado but close enough! And if Fruita is dubbed the Moab of Colorado then we’re gonna include it in this list!
#4. Salida. This beautiful little town nestled around Monarch Pass is a great escape and just a few hours over the mountains.
You can check out the entire list here. Spoiler alert….of course a little town in Hawaii was #1. With warm weather well on it’s way, we hope you get out and enjoy plenty of outdoor adventures this season! Let’s be honest….we Coloradans hit the slopes in the Winter so we enjoy our beautiful sunshine all year long!
